
2000 Reallocation and Cost Avoidance = $2,085,000
Listed below are the activities that occurred during FY 2000 to reallocate funds or avoid costs.
PrintWise - Phase 1 (Publications/Printing) = $23,000
PrintWise, the effort to control printing waste on campus, completed its first phase.
Skip Cleaning (Personnel) = $174,000
Certain non-public areas are now cleaned (wastebaskets emptied, etc.) less often, resulting in the reduction of eight custodial lines through attrition.
Credit Card Usage (Outsourcing/Program Elimination) = $539,000
The use of credit cards for the payment of tuition, and room and board was eliminated.
Trade Books (Personnel) = $41,000
Marquette has out-sourced trade books from the University-run Golden Eagle Shop to the Follett-run BookMarq.
Central Stores-Mail Services Consolidation (Personnel) = $110,000
These operations were merged resulting in the elimination of two positions. In addition, the rebidding of materials previously procured by Central Stores produced supplementary cost reductions.
Merger of CNIA with Marquette (Outsourcing/Program Elimination) = $290,000
This merger and resulting tax exemption will save Marquette the property tax expense and audit fees previously paid by CNAI.
Science Fair Elimination (Outsourcing/Program Elimination) = $69,000
Marquette hosted the Southeastern Wisconsin Science Fair for a number of years. Starting with the Science Fair in 2000, this is no longer be the case and four full tuition grants were freed-up (one per year).
Continuing Education Tuition Remission (Outsourcing/Program Elimination) = $132,000
The use of employee tuition remission for continuing education courses was eliminated while net income expectations have not been reduced. Thus, revenue “supported” by tuition remission was essentially eliminated in the amount of $200,000.
Health Insurance (Insurance) = $175,000
Plan and administrative changes were implemented in January 2000.
Academic Affairs (Personnel) = $263,000
Four administrative positions and two support staff positions were eliminated. The Graduate School was reorganized as part of this effort.
Academic Affairs (Personnel) = $131,000
One director-level position and three administrative secretary positions were eliminated.
Student Financial Aid Office (Personnel) = $52,000
Elimination of two positions.
Bursar's Office (Personnel) = $47,000
Elimination of two positions.
Apartment Hall Director (Personnel) = $39,000
One such position was eliminated in the Office of Residence Life.
