2004 Reallocation and Cost Avoidance = $950,000

Listed below are the activities that occurred during FY 2004 to reallocate funds or avoid costs.

Elimination of Grade Mailers (Technology) = $12,000
The new Student Information System gave us the capability to access grades online. Grade mailers were eliminated beginning with the fall 2004 term. Students are directed to CheckMarq to look up their grades and obtain a printout, if needed.

Energy Optimization (Operations) = $415,000
Marquette participated in the State of Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy Program, which dealt with energy efficiency and renewable energy. It was administered by the State Department of Administration. As a result of the improvements made, Marquette University reduced its annual energy expenses by $350,000 and its annual water costs by $65,000.

Student Access to B-ball Games via MUID Cards (Publications/Printing) = $12,000
A software program was purchased to allow students to gain access to Men’s and Women’s Basketball games using their I.D. cards. Hard printed tickets will no longer be purchased for use in the 2004-05 season. In addition, lost ticket situations will no longer exist.

IT Services Reorganization (Personnel) = $355,000
Ten positions were eliminated. By “separate” action, 8 new IT Services lines were created responsive to one of the original goals of the RTF, which was to attend to new and developing needs in the technology field.

Purchasing Contracts (Operations) = $156,000
Comprehensive reviews were conducted for preferred vendors in mail services, travel agencies, and copier needs. One preferred vendor was chosen for each initiative that resulted in better service as well as cost savings.
