2006 Reallocation and Cost Avoidance = $549,000

Listed below are the activities that occurred during FY 2006 to reallocate funds or avoid costs.

New Student Registration Materials (Publications/Printing) = $35,000
Undergraduate Admissions generated savings by directing potential applicants to use the online registration and informational resources, thereby reducing the number of University bulletins that were printed and distributed.

Online Benefits Enrollment (Technology) = PRICELESS
Quality Enhancement - The implementation of online benefit enrollment for this past year's open enrollment process for all university employees greatly improved the timeliness, accuracy and efficiency of this annual process. As improvements to the mechanics of online enrollment in future years are implemented and some of the shortfalls of the initial rollout are addressed, some measurable cost savings are expect to be realized due to the elimination of the paper process and the saving in staff time by not having to process paper forms.

Recycling Program (Operations) = $15,000
Marquette took further steps to improve its recycling program by reducing the amount of contamination of materials that occur from the co-mingling of waste, as well as recyclables.

Bio-Hazardous Waste Reduction (Operations) = $4,000
The University continued to review bio-hazardous waste activity and developed a process to reduce the generation of bio-hazardous waste, while fully complying with all federal and state governmental regulations.

Accounting Interns (Personnel) = $15,000
The Office of Finance supplemented its workforce by hiring student accounting interns. This enabled accounting students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge while eliminating the need for the Office of Finance to hire full-time or temporary staff.

Cell Phone Plan Changes (Technology) = $50,000
Based on a review of existing cell phone usage, individual cell phone plans were changed to optimize cell phone usage. This change, together with the implementation of an electronic distribution of bills, reduced cell phone costs.

Alumni Relations Publications (Publications/Printing) = $10,000
The Office of Marketing and Communication, together with Alumni Relation,s shifted a substantial amount of material for the annual Alumni Awards Celebration to an online web page. Savings in both paper and postage costs were recognized.

Nelligan Sports Marketing (Outsourcing/Program Elimination) = $300,000
Marquette entered a new marketing partnership with Nelligan Sports Marketing Inc. Nelligan manages athletics sponsorship rights and serves as the producer of radio broadcasts. Outsourcing these functions resulted in reduction of athletic expenditures for marketing and radio broadcasts while generating greater revenues.

Office of the Senior Vice President (Personnel) = $120,000
Prioritization and consolidation of duties within the office resulted in the elimination of one position.
