Alcohol EDU for College

As part of Marquette’s proactive approach to help ensure that students stay safe and healthy, the university is asking each first-year student to complete AlcoholEdu for College, an online alcohol education and prevention program.

.

The course must be completed between July 30th and August 21st, 2007

Overview and Instructions:

AlcoholEdu uses science-based research and interactive strategies, including personalized feedback, to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, the course can empower you to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help better manage drinking behavior – your own, and/or that which may happen around you.

The course has two sections, both of which must be completed between

July 30 and October 15, 2007 :

       • The first part of the course takes about 3 hours to complete. It is recommended that you take it in multiple sittings. This section ends with an exam and survey.  You must earn a grade of 75% or higher to pass the course.

The deadline for finishing this section of the course is August 21, 2007.

       • About two months after completing the first section of the course, you will receive an email reminding you to complete the second section of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes.

You must complete this section to finish AlcoholEdu for College; the deadline for finishing this section of the course is October 15, 2007.

All responses are strictly confidential; Marquette University staff members will receive information only about the student body as a whole and will never see individual students' answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers -- no matter what they are -- will not put you at any risk of repercussions.

To take AlcoholEdu, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. If you do not have ready access to a computer, try using a computer at a local library, copy center, or community center.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I don't drink - do I still need to complete AlcoholEdu?
Yes. All incoming first-year students are expected to complete AlcoholEdu.  Even if you don't drink, it's very likely that during your college experience you will know others who do. At the very least, alcohol use may be a topic of discussion among fellow students; the course includes material on managing peer pressure. As well, one of the purposes of the course is to provide the entire incoming class with a shared baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and to strengthen a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.

I am a transfer student - do I need to complete AlcoholEdu?
Not as a member of the entering first-year class.  Depending on what student organizations you become a part of, completion of AlcoholEdu may be asked or required of you by your organization.

I'm a transfer student and I already completed AlcoholEdu for my other college and/or Greek organization. Do I need to complete it again?
No. But you must contact us at alcoholedu@marquette.edu  with the following information so that we can verify your completion of the course:

  • Your full name
  • The name of the other college or university
  • The Greek organization (if applicable)
  • The approximate months and year you took the course.

What if my computer freezes or crashes, or I experience other technical difficulties?
See the section "Technical Support", above.

What if I have trouble logging in to the course, or I get error messages?
Please click here for the "Student Troubleshooting Guide" and scroll to the following sections: New Users, Returning Users, or Errors and Other Messages.
