Western Cape Network on Violence Against Women

The Western Cape Network on Violence Against Women is “a strong, united body which coordinates and integrates organizations and individuals through advocacy, public awareness, training and support with a developmental approach in order to progressively realize women’s right to a life free from all forms of violence.”  The Network links NGOs in the Western Cape to promote information, facility, and skills sharing.  The Network provides a venue and organization for NGOs of different focus’ to meet and develop their expertise and advocacy projects.

TESTIMONIALS

Molly Ryan

Spring 2008 South Africa Service Learning participant

My work at the Network has been focused on developing a funding campaign.  The Network has recently undergone funding cuts, which has limited its resources and ability to maintain an advocacy office and much needed training sessions.  To promote new donors consideration of the Network, I am creating a campaign which focus’ on the Network’s necessity as a link for NGOs in the Western Cape.  It is important to expose the Network’s direct link to NGOs because many potential donors do not understand the purpose of Networking in NGO development.  In order to promote awareness, I am highlighting Network members and their facilities in a photographic presentation to be given when applying for funding. If my project is successful, I would like to leave the Network with a personal work which will reflect the nature of this NGO.  The campaign will be used to advocate for Woman's rights, raise awareness about the Network's mission, and encourage continued funding for the Network.
