What can Agencies Expect from the Service Learning Program?
Student Coordinators
A unique component of the Service Learning Program is the employment of students as Student Coordinators. Once the collaborative arrangements have been established, most of your contact with Service Learning staff will be with one of our Student Coordinators. Each Student Coordinator (SC) acts as the campus liaison between service learners and their placement sites. This means that the SC is your direct link to the Service Learning Program. When an issue comes up or if you have a question about a service learner, contact your Student Coordinator.
Each SC coordinates the students from six to seven sites. This means that each SC is familiar with and maintains communication with each site coordinator and the service learners placed there. These SCs are responsible for contacting you in the beginning of each semester to get the Service Learning process moving, and for visiting your site at least twice during the semester.
The goals of these site visits are:
When your SC contacts you at the beginning of each semester, he or she will give you his or her name, office phone number and e-mail address. Everyone in the office has access to voice mail should you need to leave a message any time of the day. Also, each SC maintains regular office hours. Still, if you keep missing your SC, please let another SC know that you have a question. They may be able to address this question or direct you to someone who can. At any time, feel free to call the Service Learning Assistant Administrator at 288-0250.
