Days/Hours of Operation: Students are needed Monday through Thursday 9:30-11:30am OR 12:30-2:30pm
Description of Agency/Activities: Education at Dominican Center for Women, Inc. (DCW) is unique because the only requirement is student commitment. DCW has provided successful GED instruction, as well as Adult Basic Education programs to more than 30 adult students each year since 1995. This year DCW classes begin on Monday September 9th. In January 2014, the format for the national GED test will change. It will be completely computerized and DCW students will need to perfect their keyboarding skills.
Student Role in Agency: DCW seeks volunteer tutors to work with adult students to improve their keyboarding skills in anticipation of the new GED. Tutors will also work with the coordinator of the DCW writing lab as students combine their keyboarding and personal essay writing skills. Tutors are needed for two hours either 9:30am-11:30 am or 12:30 pm-2:30pm to work individually with a student one day per week. DCW classes are held Monday through Thursday. Optimally, DCW would like to have two service volunteer tutors for each block of time. Volunteer orientation will be on the first day of service.
Commitment/Requirements: Dominican Center asks for a 2 hour commitment every week to fulfill a typical 20 hour class-hour requirement.
