Description of Agency/Activities: We are dedicated volunteers growing, rescuing, sorting and preparing food in order to run operations for our two pantry distribution sites. We are also thousands of households donating food on a weekly basis. Many of us who volunteer are also clients. Clients that utilize the pantry are underemployed, low to moderate income, and elderly and disabled on a fixed income.

We provide emergency food assistance to hundreds of households in our area—between 500 and 1000 people a month. Last year we distributed 209,000 pounds of food to over 11,000 people! We are a client choice pantry, so individuals may shop for what they need, rather than receiving a pre-packed bag.

Recently we have expanded our mission. We come together around food to relieve hunger, improve lives and grow community well-being.

We believe the food we provide is not the end point… it is the entry point. The food we provide can be the entry point to connect a person to relationships and resources. We believe growing, shopping, cooking and sharing food provides a context for connection, health and personal development.

Student Role in Agency: Tasks vary based on need and volunteer interest. Volunteers assist pantry clients with registration, grocery selection, helping shoppers carry bags, preparing and serving a light breakfast, cleaning up -- and anything else we can help with. Hands-on training and assignments given upon arrival.

Commitment/Requirements: Once a week for 2 hours
