Description of Agency/Activities: Grandview High School is an alternative High School Program that is in partnership with the Milwaukee Public Schools. The mission at Grandview "is to provide at-risk students the opportunity to re-enter, and finish their secondary education in a multi-cultural community that fosters knowledge and equity in an atmosphere of respect and cooperation." The school's primary focus is on school age parents and parents to be, and they also work with habitual truants. The school consists of about 225 students of various racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Student Role in Agency:
- Assist students in preparing for examinations, catching up on work they are behind in, and helping to motivate them to get their work done.
- Tutors are needed in science, math, and social studies (2-4 students). Working as a tutor could include working as a classroom assistant or pulling students out of the class to work one-on-one.
- Students are also welcome to help classes and individual students in the computer lab.
Commitment: Orientation at the site; 2-3 hours per week throughout the semester. Strong attendance is very important at this site! If you sign up for this site, keep your commitment and come when scheduled. You must also complete a background check at Sign-Up Night.
