Transportation
The Service Learning Program is unable to provide transportation for Service Learners. However, on each Placement Description on the website you will find detailed directions both by car and by bus. You will also find how long it will take you to get to each site by car or by bus.
Although we try our best to keep our transportation information as updated as possible, the information may be temporarily incorrect due to the current Marquette Interchange Project. We expect that as the project develops, the directions will continue to change. Please take some time to go over the directions and if you suspect that they may currently be incorrect (such as they cross the currently nonexistent 16th St. Bridge), look up driving or bus directions.
The Marquette UPASS has given Service Learners the opportunity for free transportation across all of Milwaukee. However, if your site is far away, or if you will be serving late at night, it would be best to travel by car. If you do not have a car here at campus, you can talk to other Service Learners that are doing service at the time as you, and work out a car pool. Your Student Coordinator can also help you contact other Service Learners if you ask. Keep in mind that there are definite benefits to riding the bus, in that you get to see and experience the Milwaukee community first hand.
When selecting a site, be sure to take into account how far away the site is, and how long it will take you to get there. Give yourself enough time between your service and your other commitments. We work with many agencies that are very close to campus, and even within walking distance, if you are concerned about transportation to a site. If you need a recommendation as to which sites are close to campus, feel free to contact our office and we will be happy to suggest some to you.
