Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2013: September 30 - October 4

72 Hour Teeter Totter Marathon | O’Donnell Hall | East Courtyard
Since its inception in 2003, the Teeter Totter Marathon has become a signature program for the men of O’Donnell and a great partnership with the Sexual Violence Awareness Week events. Now in its eleventh year, the 72 hour fundraising marathon has raised thousands of dollars for Milwaukee organizations that provide support and services to sexual abuse survivors including Marquette students. For 72 consecutive hours, the men of O’Donnell Hall ride the teeter totter.

Shutter the Silence Gallery Opening Night | 4-7 p.m.| AMU 2nd floor lobby
Shutter the Silence is a photography project intended to capture the untold stories of survivors and allies of sexual assault. The inspiration for Shutter the Silence started two years ago when photographer and survivor, Leanna Vannarom began to work heavily within the sexual assault activism community of Milwaukee, WI.
Healing Service | 7 p.m. | Chapel of the Holy Family
An opportunity for survivors, their allies, friends, supporters, and healers to gather as a community in prayer. Procession begins at the Shutter the Silence photo display at 7 pm and will lead to the Chapel of the Holy Family.

Self-Defense and Bystander Intervention Training | 4:30 p.m. | AMU
2nd floor lobby
You can actively help prevent incidents before they occur and help to keep your friends safe. Marquette University Takes ACTION is a program built on national examples of bystander intervention. The platform raises awareness, provides skills and educates people to recognize the continuum of violence.

Thursday, 10/3

Keynote Speaker: Jaclyn Friedman | 7 p.m. | Weasler Auditorium
Jaclyn Friedman is a writer, educator, and activist, and the editor of the hit book Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape. Friedman has been a guest on the Melissa Harris-Perry Show, the BBC, Democracy Now, To The Contrary, and numerous other radio and television shows, and her commentary has appeared in outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, The Nation, Jezebel, Feministing.com, The American Prospect, and The Huffington Post. She is a SheSource expert, and was named one of 2009’s Top 40 Progressive Leaders Under 40 by the New Leaders Council. Sponsored by MUSG.
