Traveling Abroad

Injuries and illnesses can happen anytime, anywhere, but when they occur in unfamiliar settings, the consequences can be more severe. To minimize dangers to your health while abroad, check out our recommendations for healthy travel abroad.

Recommendations for Healthy Travel Abroad:

Consult with a health care provider well before departure

Protect yourself from insects and sunlight

Don't walk barefoot

Take special precautions with food and water

Be careful when swimming — don't swim after drinking alcohol

Be cautious when traveling in vehicles — choose transportation carefully

Bring a basic medical kit, prescription drugs and extra glasses

Make sure you have basic medical insurance that covers care provided outside the United States
