Theology
TWO MAJORS: Theology, Catholic Theology (teaching major)Who is God? How are we to understand the relationship between God and humankind? Questions of this nature may express the most fundamental and pressing of all human inquiries. Theology at Marquette explores faith and what it has to say about the fundamental purpose and meaning of all things, including our own existence. It seeks the deeper unity underlying all reality, its common origin and ultimate purpose.
THE MARQUETTE ADVANTAGE
LEARN FROM THE BEST. Take classes from nationally recognized theologians, distinguished not only for their research and writings, but for their teaching.
Related Resources
GO BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. Participate in Marquette's national honor society for theology and religious studies, Theta Alpha Kappa, which sponsors educational and social events, as well as national writing competitions.
APPRECIATE BREADTH. Theological questions evoke distinctive responses from the various religious perspectives represented in contemporary society. More than merely recognizing this fact, we respect it in all our theology courses, in the ecumenical spirit of Vatican II. You'll be able to take courses such as Jewish Thought and Practice, Women in the Bible, Christian Theology in Global Contexts and The Role of the Bible in the Black Religious Experience.
SHARE YOUR FAITH. Our new major in Catholic theology is perfect for aspiring Catholic school teachers. With the major's focus on both theology and education courses, you'll be well prepared to teach theology or religion in our nation's Catholic high schools.
