Two members of the Theology Department faculty, Fr. Thomas Hughson, S.J., and Fr. Philip Rossi, SJ, and three Marquette Ph. D. graduates, Dr. Arie Griffioen, Dr. Jane Linahan, and Dr. Cyril Orji, presented papers at an international theology conference in Leuven, Belgium November 2-5, 2005.

The conference, "Godhead Here in Hiding: The Incarnation and the History of Human Suffering" was organized by the Faculty of Dogmatic Theology of the Catholic University of Leuven. The conference was the fifth in the series, Leuven Encounters in Systematic Theology V (LEST V), that was inaugurated in 1997 and takes place every other year.

Fr. Hughson delivered his paper, "The Incarnation and Social Justice: Developing a Theme from John Courtney Murray," in the session dealing with The Incarnation and Praxis-Oriented Theologies. Fr. Rossi presented his paper, "Seeing Good in a World of Suffering: Incarnation as God's Transforming Vision," in the section on The Incarnation and Post-modern Thought.

Dr. Griffioen, who completed his Ph. D. in 1988 and teaches at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI, delivered his paper, "Communion Ecclesiology and the Extra-Calvinisticum," in the section focused on The Ecumenical Implications of the Incarnation. Dr. Linahan, who completed her Ph.D. in 1998 and teaches at St. Francis de Sales Seminary, Milwaukee, presented her paper, "The Kenosis of Christ as Sacrament of God's Relation With the World," in the section on Kenosis and the Incarnation. Dr. Orji, who completed his Ph.D. in 2005 and now teaches at the University of Dayton, presented his paper, "The Incarnation and the Challenge of the Interreligious Dialogue" in a section of the Junior Scholars Conference that focused on the Incarnation and Interreligious Dialogue.
