Seminar Announces its first Visiting Fellow:
Prof. Dr. Sven Grosse from Germany

The Seminar “Jewish Roots of Christian Mysticism” of the Department of Theology has recently announced that  Prof. Dr. Sven Grosse (University of Hamburg/University of Munich) will conduct research at Marquette University on “Luther and Medieval Mysticsm” from April 3 to July 31, 2008.  During his stay he will deliver two public lectures and hold consultations with faculty and graduate students in the Department of Theology on research issues of mutual interest.

Dr. Grosse, an ordained minister of the Evangelical Church of Bavaria, holds  two doctorates in Church History/Historical Theology, having studied under the direction of the distinguished scholar Prof. Bernhard Hamm (Erlangen). His two monographs and several dozen articles deal mainly with topics on the religious history of the Renaissance, the Reformation and Medieval Mysticism.

The DFG, the German NEH equivalent, awarded Dr. Grosse a prestigious four-month-fellowship to pursue his research in collobaration with members of Marquette’s Department of Theology and its Seminar “Jewish Roots of Christian Mysticism”. His visit was arranged by Dr. Ulrich Lehner and Dr. Andrei Orlov, organizer of the Seminar.
