Project: Using "Bugscope" In Science Classrooms

Description: "Bugscope" is a free program developed for elementary school science teachers to have access to Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM). The electron microscope is housed at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. Teacher and students (as well as pre-service teachers now in Marquette's education program) submit a proposal to UIUC. Once accepted, the school sends insects to be studied to the university for preparation. On the scheduled date, a live, on-line chat occurs and participants have control over magnification and scanning power of the ESEM via their computer screen. Images are then stored on a personalized website for future access.

Technology: Web-based Electron Microscopy
