Jose Bosio, Assistant Professor, Dentistry
As member of Marquette Community, we all strive to participate and give our share of contribution to the university. And as faculty member, I continuously learn from my new experiences. Serving as president-elect for the Dental School faculty council has given me confidence to share my bit of experience with the whole university. Thank you for considering my name for this position.
Jim Marten, Professor, History
I seek election to the Faculty Council because I believe there remains a lot of work to be done at Marquette in promoting faculty governance and ensuring transparency and faculty input in decision-making processes. These have been concerns of mine for many years. As department chair and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee in the College of Arts and Sciences for eight years, I’ve sought to represent faculty interests with the upper administration and worked with other chairs to encourage cooperation among the departments in the college. I have an excellent understanding of issues facing faculty, having hired and mentored nine new professors. I have also prepared dossiers for more than a dozen colleagues seeking promotion to associate or full professor. I have also served on the Faculty Welfare Subcommittee of the old Committee on Faculty and on the Committee on Research. As the Arts and Sciences representative to the task force for the on-line faculty activities database, I helped create a system that will promote faculty accomplishments and protect faculty privacy.
I have been at Marquette since 1986 and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in U. S. history, specifically the Civil War era and the history of the children and youth. I am author or editor of over a dozen books, serve as current president of the Society of Civil War Historians and president-elect of the Society for the History of Children and Youth, and received the 2010 Haggerty Award for Excellence in Research, Marquette University.
Bharat Srivastava, Associate Professor, Management
I have been with Marquette University since 1992 and currently, I am an Associate Professor of Management in the College of Business Administration. I am also the Assistant Chair of the department. It is my intention to work actively and collaboratively with my colleagues on shared governance and in completing the tasks that the committee is charged with.
Alex Stewart, Associate Professor, Management
Since joining Marquette in 2000, I have launched a new major and now a cross-campus minor in entrepreneurship. These programs have a close fit with MU’s mission, particularly in terms of cura personalis. Our new program for non-business students excites me, partly because it’s great for our students and partly because my own background is cross-disciplinary. I have graduate degrees in three fields and my work focuses on applying anthropological methods, theories and findings to business issues. (My papers on Raynor’s e-Publications demonstrate this approach and also include short works on teaching entrepreneurship.)
The Faculty Council (FC), a standing committee of the University Academic Senate, provides a forum for discussing and vetting matters of immediate academic and professional importance and draws upon the collective experience and knowledge of the faculty as a consultative body for the Senate.
