View Committee Description

Owen Goldin, Professor, Philosophy

Owen Goldin, Professor, Department of Philosophy, 22 years at Marquette. I have served a term on the Faculty Appeals Committee, and am currently serving on the Faculty Hearing Committee. I am proud of the careful and fair work done by these committees, in conducting independent reviews of complex and difficult promotion cases to ensure that procedures have been meticulously followed.

Gene Laczniak, Professor, Marketing

Gene Laczniak, PhD (Professor of Business) has been a member of the Marquette faculty since 1976. He has served as a department chair (Marketing) for 12 years and was an elected (at-large) member of the Committee on Faculty (1996-1998). He also worked as Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs/Associate Provost of the university from 1998 to 2002. While in administration, he helped staff UAS meetings and also served as liaison to the strategic planning committee of the MU Board of Trustees. Laczniak was also a member of the MU University Promotion & Tenure Committee for 13 years. Laczniak has periodically been a visiting professor at the University of Western Australia-Perth.

Irfan Omar, Associate Professor, Theology

I am an associate professor of Islam and Interreligious dialogue in the Department of Theology. I joined Marquette University in the fall of 2002. I have served on a number of Departmental committees, including the Executive committee and currently I serve as member of the steering committee of the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking. I am interested in serving on the University Academic Senate to learn the 'way of service' from colleagues who are currently on this or affiliated committees but also to find ways to enact my commitment to service just as many others have done and continue to do so to benefit me and my life and career at Marquette.

Meghan Stroshine, Associate Professor, Social and Cultural Sciences

I have been part of the Marquette faculty community since 2002, although I also have the distinction of being a proud Marquette alumnus. I received my Bachelor's degree from Marquette in Criminology & Law Studies in 1994. I continued my education in Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, receiving my Master's in 1996. I obtained my doctorate in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in 2001.

I would be honored to serve the faculty as their representative on the Faculty Hearing Committee. Since the FHC deals with issues such as tenure appointments, promotions, annual reviews, and allegations of academic misconduct, I realize that this is a position of great responsibility and trust. As a criminologist, I have taught a variety of courses, such as Police and Society, Domestic Violence, and Family Violence and Public Intervention, where the concepts of justice, fairness, and equity are paramount. My research, largely in the areas of policing and domestic violence, has likewise addressed issues of justice and equality. I served for four years on the University Appeals Committee, where confidentiality, justice, equity and fairness were critical in ensuring that students' due process rights were honored. This was a rich and rewarding experience, one that I believe has prepared me to ensure that faculty receive a fair, impartial, and balanced review of cases.
