Doug Leonhardt, S.J.

Associate Director: Mission and Identity

Doug Leonhardt, S.J. entered the Society of Jesus right after finishing Marquette High School in Milwaukee.  During his years of philosophical studies at St. Louis University he received a Master's Degree in Education and a Licentiate in Philosophy.  Following three years of teaching at Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, he began formal studies for ordination at St. Louis University.  He was ordained at Gesu Church in June, 1969.  In 1970, he received a Master's Degree in Spiritual Theology and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology.

In 1971, he was appointed principal of Marquette High in Milwaukee.  After serving for four year as principal, he was asked to be the Director of Novices at the Jesuit Novitiate in St. Paul, MN.  Following that assignment, he became pastor of Gesu Church and, after four years, became a member of the staff of the Wisconsin Province of the Society. In 1995 he returned to Marquette High, this time as President, a position he held until 2003.  After a year’s sabbatical, he began work with Stephanie Russell in the Office of Mission and Identity.  He also is Chaplain in the College of Education and hall minister in the Abbottsford.
