Hiring for Mission:
Resources for Chairs, Supervisors
and Search Committees

The various policies and programs that support hiring for mission at Marquette have been created to assists search comittees and others responsible for hiring to consciously and deliberately consider Marquette's mission in the selection process. They bring into focus important questions for our univeristy community:

  • What is is about our Catholic, Jesuit, humanistic heritage that we must understand and promote in order to be true to our identity?
  • In an era when the burden of our spiritual and religious heritage cannot be borne soley by the Jesuits on our campus, what explicit efforts will we make to hire women and men who can advance and animate that intellectual tradition of faith and justice long into the future?
  • Once we have welcomed a new colleague to our campus, how can we support him or her in mission education and engagement?
  • How will all of these efforts ultimately affect students and the transformational education we seek to provide for them?
  • Who do we want to be? Who do we want those we invite into our community to be?

The Office of Mission and Identity web site provides some basic information for you to give to Prospective Employees in advance of their interview, but these materials should be supplemented by mission-related readings that are specific to the position to which the candidate is applying. Chairs, supervisors and members of search committee are also invited to participate in Hiring for Mission Retreats sponsored each year by the Office of Mission and Identity.
