Spiritual Conversation

An important element in
Ignatian spirituality is the engagement of spiritual conversation
with others – the conscious effort to talk about our lives and work at a deep
and sincere level, in the context of the God who loves us. In the rush
of our hectic schedules, taking time for such spiritual conversation can be a
challenge. Even when we do set aside time for discussions about mission
and the “big picture” at Marquette, it can be difficult to know where to begin.
It is really for this purpose – the jump-starting of our spiritual
conversations about mission in the university -- that the magazine Conversations
on Jesuit Higher Education was founded.
Established
in 1992 by the National Seminar on Jesuit Higher Education, the semiannual magazine
encourages serious conversations on the nature of Jesuit higher education and
ways in which all who participate in that mission may better achieve it. Each
issue centers on a theme selected by members of the National Seminar. Recent issues
have examined mission and identity, urban education, service learning, core curricula,
hiring for mission, and the role of intercollegiate athletics at Jesuit institutions.
The printed magazine is distributed to faculty, administrators, and staff
of all twenty-eight Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S., and our own
Dr. Ed Block, Professor of English, currently serves as editor.
Conversations is
also available
online.
