UPAF Ride for the Arts - Sunday, June 2
Marquette University employee Sarah Burkhart is coordinating a team to take part in the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) Ride for the Arts, which will take place Sunday, June 2. Marquette employees and family members are encouraged to participate.
UPAF’s 32 Member and Affiliate performing arts groups touch over one million people through performances, educational outreach, special events and community partnerships each year. The role of the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) is to secure community resources, promote the performing arts as a regional asset and improve the quality of life through responsible investment in and financial support of the arts in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Three routes (25, 50 and 75-mile routes) will head over the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge which gives riders a unique view of Milwaukee. Also, the five-mile route will finish by going through Lakeshore State Park, the first and only Urban State Park in Wisconsin. The easiest way to register is at www.upafride.org.

Wisconsin Bike Challenge
About
Marquette University has signed up for the Wisconsin Bike Fed’s 2012 Wisconsin Bike Challenge. By participating in the Wisconsin Bike Challenge you’ll easily and conveniently be able to enter your bike trips and miles using the new, improved Challenge website. Each month, exciting bike prizes will be given away to reward Challenge participants. The more you bike, the better your chance of winning will be!
Last year’s Challenge was a huge success with over 4,500 participants from across Wisconsin who logged a total of 1.2 million bicycle miles. This year, the Wisconsin Challenge is tied into a National Challenge – let’s show Minnesota and Iowa who’s boss!The Challenge runs from May 1 – August 31, 2012. You can sign up or drop out at any point during the Challenge.

Teams are limited to 10 participants.
You can participate with Marquette University by riding solo or creating your own Marquette team for the Wisconsin Bike Challenge by visiting www.bfw.org/for-your-business/wisconsin-bike-challenge/. If you participated in last year’s Challenge, you still need to sign up for the 2012 Wisconsin Bike Challenge, but you will not have to create a new account. During the sign up process, make sure you enter Marquette University when you are prompted to enter your worksite. This will ensure that you are signed up with our workplace.
All participating Marquette faculty and staff are eligible to receive a Marquette University bike strap and will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Wheel and Sprocket gift certificate.

About the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin
The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin is a statewide, nonprofit bicycle-advocacy organization that seeks to inspire, motivate, and unite a strong community of civic, business and political leaders, motorists and bicyclists to move bicycling forward in Wisconsin.
In 2010, the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin recruited businesses statewide for a commuter bike challenge. Out of fifty-six workplaces in Milwaukee, Marquette had the most participants (52) and the most miles biked (1,384).
