ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Alzheimer's Association
Includes chapter information, caregiver resources, medical information, public policy, conferences, and Internet resources. The site includes a search tool to search for Alzheimer's related documents. This site is maintained by the association's national headquarters in Chicago.

Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center (ADEAR)
Includes selected publications online, information on how to order publications, and NIA research findings about Alzheimer's. You can enter questions and receive a response from ADEAR. Alzheimer Web Includes links to Alzheimer's resources and research labs, a database of important papers on Alzheimer's, news items, conference reports, and the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. American Health Assistance Foundation (www.ahaf.org) Non-profit organization dedicated to 1) funding research on are-related and degenerative diseases, 2) educating the public about these diseases, and 3) providing emergency financial assistance to AD patients and their caregivers.

Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute
The Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute is dedicated to improving the availability of services and the quality of care provided to persons affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. In collaboration with community organizations, the Institute aims to improve the quality of life for persons affected by dementia through research, education, training, program development and public advocacy.

Discharge Planning, University of British Columbia
This interactive module leads you through a case to learn about planning the discharge of elderly patients from the hospital.

Geri Ann, University of Florida
Geriatric Education Cases A framework for developing interactive geriatric educational materials.

The Interactive Patient, Marshall University
This teaching tool for physicians, residents, and medical students, offers a case to the user who then has to interact with the patient and submit a diagnosis and treatment plan.

MedConnect: Information Services for the Medical Community
Offers a free Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and interactive journal articles.

Multidisciplinary Education in Geriatrics & Aging
Includes twelve teaching modules on topics such as normal aging, geriatric assessment, nutrition, and mental health.

The Virtual Hospital
The goal of the Virtual Hospital digital library is to make the Internet a useful medical reference and health promotion tool for health care providers and patients.

 

ELDER ABUSE

NCEA, National Center on Elder Abuse
A comprehensive resource including statistics, elder abuse incidence study, resources by state, and publications.

 

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Administration on Aging
Includes the Eldercare Locator, a statistical profile of older Americans, an AOA directory, directory of State Agencies on Aging, resource information for the elderly and for caregivers, news about AOA, and a "Directory of Web and Gopher Aging Sites."

Bureau of Health Professions
Includes overview of program, grants and contracts, publications, student assistance, and a staff directory. This Bureau provides the funding for Geriatric Education Centers.

Center for Medicare Education
Resource for public agencies and private organizations that provide consumer education about Medicare and Medicare health plan options.

Department of Health and Human Services
Includes news and public affairs, consumer information, research/data, policy information, Grantsnet, and information about HHS agencies on the Internet.

The Arthritis Foundation

Medweb: Geriatrics
The Health Science Library at Emory University maintains links to various medical specialties, including geriatrics.

Prostate Cancer Infolink
Includes information about prostate cancer: screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Users can submit questions, recommend resources, and share experiences online.

American Bar Association on Legal Problems of the Elderly
Includes a legal guide for Older Americans, information on advance directives, a publications listing, and current legislative decisions affecting the elderly.

Elder Law Center
A legal services provider for the elderly, engaging in individual and group legal advocacy on issues affecting citizens over the age of 60, with special emphasis on the poor and vulnerable elderly.

National Senior Citizens Law Center
Advocates nationwide to promote the independence and well-being of low-income elderly individuals, as well as persons with disabilities.

National Mental Health Services Knowledge Exchange
Includes information on the National Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse, and Mental Health Services Administration; upcoming mental health conferences and events; technical assistance centers supported by CHMS; mental health statistics; and links to other mental health resources.

Rehabilitation and Research Training Center on Aging with Mental Retardation
Includes information about the Rehabilitation and Research Training Center on Aging with Mental Retardation; a resource clearinghouse on aging and developmental disabilities; a listing of research projects; a conference calendar, and links to related resources.

Dedicated to promoting the mental health and well being of older people and improving the care of those with late life mental disorders.

American Geriatrics Society, Inc.
The AGS promotes high quality comprehensive and accessible care for America's older population, including those who are chronically ill and disabled.

American Hospice Foundation
The AHF aids programs that serve the needs of terminally ill and grieving individuals of all ages.

American Society of Aging
Informs the public and health professionals about issues affecting the quality of life for older people and promotes innovative approaches to meet these needs.

Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA)
Founded in 1990 to advance the assisted living industry and enhance the quality of life for the consumers it serves.

American Association of Retired Persons

Social Security Administration
Social security works because it speaks to a universal human need. The 21st century brings with it new challenges, including an aging nation and a continuing need to provide income security for workers and their families in retirement, or in the event of the disability or death of the wage earner.
