Writing Center FAQ

Q: How long do sessions last?
A: We try to make appointments for about 45-50 minutes. Sometimes when it's busy, we have to shorten appointments to a half hour.

Q: Do you have to have an appointment, or can you just walk in?
A: If we're not busy and you walk in, we'll be glad to work with you, but right before First Year English papers are due, we're pretty busy. And our schedule varies. Sometimes we have a lot of tutors and sometimes very few.

Q: Do I have to have my paper printed out?
A: Probably not. We have an IMac and a couple of PCs connected to a printer. You can work at one of the computers with a tutor or print out.

Q: What flavor is the IMac?
A: Blueberry.

Q: What should I bring to my appointment at the writing center?
A: Bring your assignment. Bring your draft, if you have one, or notes, or just good ideas or questions.

Q: Can I use the writing center for all my courses?
A: Yes, for all four years.

Q: Will you help with letters or personal statements for law and medical school?
A: Yes. The Career Services Center will work with you on your resume, and the Arts and Sciences Office of Preprofessional Studies will give you good ideas about personal statements as well.
