Travel

Marquette University is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just 90 miles north of Chicago on Interstate 94.

Convenient airline service from all major hubs is available through Milwaukee's airport (Mitchell Field). Taxi service to area hotels is approximately $17. per person. Frequent limousine service directly to Milwaukee from Chicago's O'Hare Field is available from United Limo (800) 833-5555.

If you are driving from the north--follow I-43 south, exit at the Civic Center (72C). Follow 11th st. south. Turn right, west, on Wisconsin Ave. Turn right, north, on 16th St. Guest parking is on the left, mid-block.

If you are driving from the south--follow I-94 west toward downtown. At the Marquette Interchange, follow the signs for I-94 West (Madison). Move into the right lane after passing the interchange. Exit at 22nd St. and Clybourn (309B). At the top of the ramp, turn right, east, on Clybourn. Turn left, north, on 16th St. Cross Wisconsin Ave. Guest parking is on the left, mid-block.

If you are driving from the west--follow I-94 east toward downtown. Exit at 13th St. (310A). Turn left, north, on 13th St., then left, west, on Clybourn. Turn right, north, on 16th St. Cross Wisconsin Ave. Guest parking is on the left, mid-block.

Weather

March is a changeable month in Milwaukee. You should be prepared for winter weather. On the other hand, it could be spring-like. It's best to watch current weather channels the day before, or check forecasts at weather.com.

Hotels

We have selected the Holiday Inn Milwaukee City Centre to host the overnight accommodations for the conference. Rooms within the block can be made from March 21 to 25. The group rate will be valid for booking from May 1 2006 through February 21 2007.

City buses run regularly (every 15 minutes) between Marquette and the Holiday Inn (fare is $1.50). Current schedules can be found at the bus stop one block to the west of Cudahy Hall or in the Union Station at Alumni Memorial Union.

Another hotel within walking distance to campus is The Ambassador: 414-345-5000. Identify yourself as a conference participant in order to get the reserved $99 Marquette special rate.

Art Galleries/Museums

Marquette University's Haggerty Museum of Art is on campus, southeast in a diagonal direction from Cudahy Hall.

The city's Art Center with the new Santiago Calatrava addition is on Wisconsin Avenue at the lakefront. Admission is $5.

Art galleries abound in the Third Ward, amid restaurants and cafes, in the area around MIAD, The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Public Museum and Public Library

The city's renowned Public Museum is at Ninth and Wells (one block north of Wisconsin Avenue). Admission is $4.

The Public Library is at Ninth and Wisconsin.

Marquette University Libraries, Archives & Special Collections

On permanent display in MU's special collections are the J.R.R. Tolkein papers, Dorothy Day/Catholic Worker papers, sources on Christianity Among the Indians of the Americas, and sources on the History of Women.

We also recommend you take a look at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's schedule of performances.

Food

There are three locations in the Alumni Memorial Union for the purchase of meals throughout the day. The bottom level of Cudahy has a snack bar with soft drinks, sandwiches, coffee, etc. Raynor Library has a snack bar on the second floor bridge.
