Bombingham Text announced for First Year Reading Program

This year, first-year students will read and discuss the novella Bombingham by Anthony Grooms as part of the Manresa Project's First Year Reading Program. This is the fifth year that all incoming Marquette University students have been asked to read a common text and to discuss it during orientation week. Previous readings have included such varied books as Ron Suskind's A Hope in the Unseen, Ann Lamott's Bird by Bird, Ernest Gaines' A Lesson Before Dying and Lan Samantha Chang's Hunger.

  • Engineering professor awarded grants to study biofuels

    Dr. Dan Zitomer, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, recently
    received grants totaling more than $160,000 to study methane production in anaerobic
    digesters. The research has implications for both renewable energy and waste reduction.
    Zitomer received a $39,000 grant from the State of Wisconsin and a $122,095 grant from
    WE Energies. Read more.

  • Massingale elected vice president of theological group

    The Catholic Theological Society of America recently elected Rev. Bryan Massingale,
    Marquette University associate professor of theology, vice president, putting him in line to
    become president of the 1,300-member organization. The CTSA is the principal
    professional association and learned society for Catholic theologians in North America.

    "Bite-mark study could bolster use as evidence." A team of Marquette researchers hope
    that the scientific analysis of bite patterns will provide a more objective basis for analysis
    and comparison of bite-mark evidence in criminal trials. Read more.

  • Father Brooks Mosaic being reconstructed in Alumni Memorial Union

    The Father Brooks Mosaic, which was a focal point of Marquette’s Brooks Memorial
    Union, is now being installed on the second floor of the Alumni Memorial Union. The
    mosaic honors Father Brooks, the 17th president of Marquette University, with sections
    depicting his faith, his birthplace in Watertown in 1893, symbols of his ordination and the
    coats of arms of institutions where he taught.

  • Three art exhibitions offer eclectic mix at the Haggerty

    The Haggerty Museum of Art has three exhibitions on display through September. Queens
    and Vagabonds: Paintings by Gina Litherland
    , is an exhibition of 17 oil paintings by
    Wisconsin artist Gina Litherland.  Louise Bourgeois: Recent Projects features two limited
    edition series by the French artist. The Fugue series is a portfolio of 19 prints based on
    pen-and-ink drawings created in 2003; the second series is a suite of untitled
    screenprints on vintage fabric. India Poems: The Photographs of Milwaukee Artist Waswo
    X. Waswo
    , includes a suite of photographs taken by the American artist while he was
    traveling across the Indian subcontinent between 1999 and 2004. Read more.

The recently opened Marquette Neighborhood Health Center provides a wide range of primary health care services to children, adults and families, with a focus on preventative care, screenings and health education. The health center is operated by the Marquette College of Nursing and serves as a clinical location for faculty-supervised work of graduate and undergraduate students.  Read more
