Northwestern Mutual donates $1 million for Law School building
Northwestern Mutual Foundation has announced a $1 million gift to Marquette Law School for the construction of its new building, Eckstein Hall.
"This investment from Northwestern Mutual Foundation further reflects its commitment to supporting Milwaukee’s future. We are grateful for its recognition of the importance of a premier law school in our community," said Law School Dean Joseph D. Kearney.
The building is under construction at 12th and Clybourn and is targeted for completion by the Fall 2010 school year. Read more |

- Ellis breaks scoring record
Senior Krystal Ellis broke Marquette's all-time scoring record last Tuesday night as the Marquette women's basketball team defeated USF, 71-56, at the Sun Dome. Learn more
- Accolades for Jerel McNeal
Last Tuesday, Jerel McNeal - named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the third time this season - scored 26 points and the men's team beat DePaul for its 12th straight victory, matching its longest winning streak in seven years. McNeal is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, based on his accomplishments across four areas: classroom, competition, character and community. - Promentis licenses Marquette and UWM technology
Promentis Pharmaceuticals, a company launched by Drs. David Baker and John Mantsch of the College of Health Sciences, recently licensed technology developed by Marquette and the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee that could lead to a novel treatment for schizophrenia and
other central nervous system conditions. It is the third example of technology commercialization applications resulting from Marquette faculty research. Read more about the licensing agreement. Read more about Baker’s research
- Marquette faculty at Pecha Kechu
Twenty slides. Six minutes, 40 seconds. Five Marquette faculty. Come cheer on Drs. Bill Cullinan, Bill Henk and Ed de St. Aubin, and Laura Kestner and Linda Menck as they race the clock to present on a range of topics at the Pecha Kucha event on February 24 at a Bay View tavern. Pecha Kechu, a growing movement among young professionals around the world, combines learning with a fast-paced night on the town. Learn more
- Marquette engineers honored
The Engineers and Scientists of Milwaukee organization has named Marquette Interchange project director Don Reinbold, Eng ’64, Engineer of the Year, and Dr. Michelle Johnson, a research assistant professor of biomedical engineering, Young Engineer of the Year. A student project to bring clean water to La Garrucha, Guatemala, is a finalist for a national award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
- Marquette supports K-12 Catholic education
Marquette, Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Marian University and Mount Mary College recently formed the Greater Milwaukee Catholic Education Consortium to provide academic resources and professional expertise for the 132 Catholic K-12 schools serving more than 33,000 students in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. - Haggerty Museum loans out Pieta
The Haggerty Museum of Art will loan its copy of Michelangelo’s bronze Pieta from its permanent collection to the Italian Community Center. The sculpture will be on public display in the Ignazio and Maria Crivello Galleria at the ICC for the next five years. Read more
