Innocent or guilty. Friend or foe. Rich or poor. No matter the circumstances all life deserves respect, and providing basic rights and necessities to all can help curb the violence in this country. That’s the message Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, wanted everyone to hear during her speech at the Center for Peacemaking’s national conference on Marquette’s campus, where she was also awarded an honorary degree in religious studies.

- Marquette celebrates Centennial Week
Campus activities commemorated the Centennial Celebration of Women at Marquette with a weeklong series of special speakers and other programs Oct. 5-9. Events included the dedication of a new bronze statue of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and the conferral of an honorary degree upon Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ. The celebration continues throughout the year. Read more
- Darren Jackson to lead Marquette board
Jackson, Bus Ad ’86 and president and chief executive officer of Advance Auto Parts, was recently elected chair of Marquette’s Board of Trustees. He succeeds Mary Ellen Stanek, Arts ’78. Read more
- Social Entrepreneur in Residence comes to campus
Jane Leu, an internationally recognized social entrepreneur and expert on global immigration and workforce issues, will serve as Marquette’s first Social Entrepreneur in Residence. Leu, who founded Upwardly Global, will be on campus from Oct. 26 to Nov. 7. Read more
- Business Plan Competition accepting submissions
Alumni are encouraged to participate in the 2010 Business Plan Competition sponsored by the Marquette University Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship. Apply by Dec. 7.
- Marquette Madness seizes fans
Excited Golden Eagles fans packed the stands of the Al McGuire Center on Oct. 16 to help celebrate the start of basketball fans. Check out this Marquette Madness video.
- Marquette in the News
Marquette University's Board of Trustees recently approved moving ahead on the first phase of a $100 million College of Engineering facility. The story was covered by the Associated Press, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Business Journal of Milwaukee and other media outlets.
Dr. Linda Salchenberger, James H. Keyes Dean of the College of Business Administration, was featured prominently in a recent Business Week story about the surge of interest in business programs.

Kelly Chmielewski, Eng '04, Grad '06, married Christopher Milewski on August 1, 2009, in Milwaukee.
Several alumni are helping to raise funds to renovate the historic pipe organ at Gesu Church. The Organ Renovation Project team includes George, Bus Ad '58, and Anna Clair Gaspar; Brian and Ellen (Keyser), Nurs '73, Buggy; Daniel Domrois, Arts '91, MBA '94, and Bob and Margaret (McCormick), CJPA '91, Goetten.

Braxton Robert Boyd was welcomed July 7, 2009, by proud parents Kristi (Wetzel) Boyd, Bus Ad '03, and Michael Boyd. He joins big sister, Aubryn, age 4, and big brother, Kade, age 2.
Brian Suerth, Bus Ad '93, was selected by the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine as one of their 2009 "Forty Under 40" in September.
