Guest Speaker Hospitality

To provide a consistent hospitality experience for COBA guests, if you share your guest speaker information at least one week in advance, we can provide hospitality items - a small COBA-branded gift, parking voucher and a thank-you email to each speaker from the Dean. Please use this form to submit guest speaker information.

Speaker Gift Pick-Up: Speaker gift packages will be ready by noon on the Friday prior to your presentation date.  Please visit the GSM/Business Career Center greeting desk in DS 275 Monday-Thursday between 7:15am and 6pm and 7:15am-4:30pm on Friday to pick up your items.

Additional Speakers: Communicate additions through the online form.

Changes or Cancellations: Please inform John Knapp of speaker changes or cancellations.

Presentation Follow-Up: Each Friday, John will email faculty with presentations during the prior week to confirm that the presentation occurred and there weren’t any last-minute changes. This is necessary to prevent the Dean from sending thank-you emails to professionals who did not visit Marquette on the submitted date.

Student Publicity

In spring 2019, the Business Career Center newsletter grew into BizNews - a college-wide undergraduate weekly email.  Modeled after MU NewsBriefs (or Marquette Today), Laura Philbin and Meghann Witthoft create a weekly email to inform and engage students about deadlines, announcements, events, involvement opportunities and other newsworthy items.  Within the fall and spring semesters, students, faculty and staff may submit news item requests through the online submission form.  Examples of events to submit include application-based program deadlines (AIM, banking), case competition opportunities, speaker events, etc.

PowerPoint Slides: Business Career Center staff will continue to publicize upcoming events through PPT slides shared with faculty each Friday. Thank you for presenting these to your classes and/or posting to D2L.

Handshake & Recruiting Ethics

In alignment with our professional ethics, Business Career Center staff seek to ensure that students have equal access to information about job and internship opportunities.  When employers post to Handshake, this equity is achieved.

It is very efficient for employers to post to Handshake.  Over 700 colleges and universities use Handshake, so most employers (including all fortune 500 companies) have an account on the system already.  When you receive outreach from employers:

If employers request that you recommend individual students, please see the candidate referral guidelines developed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Student Organization Support

To provide a consistent hospitality experience for College of Business Administration guests and to promote student organization events, if your student organization shares guest speaker information at least one week in advance, the Business Career Center will be happy to provide hospitality items - a small College of Business Administration branded gift, “chaser tickets” for free parking in our parking structures and a thank you email from the Dean.  Please follow these next steps:
