Understanding the Hiring Context
The Business Career Center has received the following feedback about hiring international
- Communication skills are highly important. Employers want to ensure that new staff joining their organizations will be able to
communicate (verbally and in writing) at a professional level.
- There are a limited number of H1-B visas available. Employers express concerns about offering international students full-time
employment because of H1-B visa scarcity. As a result, international students face
a more challenging internship search as well.
- Employers want straightforward communication regarding where international students ultimately want to work. Some employers will
offer international students the opportunity to work in a U.S. branch of their companies
with the understanding that the new hire will transfer to an office in their home
country. You should be clear on whether or not this is a viable option for you.
