The Marquette University College of Business Administration’s undergraduate accounting program has received high marks recently in the area of tax education.

After winning in a regional competition, a team of Marquette accounting students is one of only nine that will advance to the national Deloitte FanTAXic Case Study Competition, Jan. 13 – 15, 2017, at Deloitte University in Dallas. There, the teams will compete for more than $50,000 in individual scholarships and institutional awards.

Led by instructor Cindy Gruber and coached by Deloitte mentor Paul Nylen, the Marquette team comprised Zach Ament, Jack Senft, Colleen O'Neill, Kelsey Warford and Wade Wolff. Other teams advancing to the national contest include Boston College, the University of Iowa, Ohio State University and the University of Texas at Austin, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, St. John Fisher College, the University of Southern California, and the College of William and Mary.

Sponsored by Deloitte and the Deloitte Foundation, Deloitte FanTAXtic is designed to educate and prepare the next generation of tax talent for a career in business and tax. The interactive program includes case simulation, role playing, and presentations that provide students with insights and perspectives on challenges facing the profession today, future trends that may impact it tomorrow, and the overall changing business tax marketplace.

Marquette’s undergraduate accounting program was also recently ranked No. 19 in the nation by Tax Talent in its 2017 Top in Tax Educational Survey. According to Tax Talent, the annual survey provides tax employers the opportunity to vote for the best U.S. undergraduate, graduate and legal programs from their perspective for the 2016 – 17 school year. Respondents were asked to select up to five schools per program that they hold in highest regard when hiring candidates.
