This Gospel Choir is supported by Campus Ministry and is open to students of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Students will learn about Gospel and Praise music rooted in the African-American experience and explore the spirituality of this particular musical genre. Course credit is provided under the College of Communications - Performing Arts. Under the direction and guidance of Mr. Byron Lampkins M.M., the choir sings contemporary Gospel Music as well as spiritual songs of the Gospel tradition. The choir appreciates and honors the joy in singing and praising God, regardless of musical ability.
There are regular weekly rehearsals held in the Marquette Hall 300 on Mondays from 5-7 pm. The choir performs one concert each semester. Other choir performances include the annual MLK Breakfast, Mission Week events, and Baccalaureate Mass. The choir also performs at several off-campus events, usually at local churches.
If you are interested in joining the Gospel Singers, contact Mr. Byron Lampkins or visit Campus Ministry, AMU 236, to learn how you might join this choir.
