To eliminate the need for individuals to enter personal identifiers (Social Security number, name, and date of birth) when logging in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites.
The FSA ID, comprised of a user-selected username and password, has replaced the Federal Student Aid PIN as the process by which students, parents, and borrowers authenticate their identity to access their federal student aid information. An FSA ID is a legal signature and should not be created or used by anyone other than the owner. The owner of an FSA ID should not share their FSA ID with anyone else for any reason.
A Social Security Number is required to create an FSA ID.
Email addresses associated with FSA ID accounts must be unique. An email address may not be shared between FSA ID accounts, such as between a student and a parent.
Existing users may link their former PIN information to the FSA ID. For general questions about creating an FSA ID, as well as assistance in logging in with an FSA ID, individuals should contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) at (800) 4-FED-AID, (800) 433-3243.
