In order to prepare spiritually, mentally, and physically for the trip to Cape Town, South Africa, there are mandatory meetings, and one retreat for all participants. All participants are expected to attend all meetings in their entirety. Meetings are schedule at times that best suit the participants, so every measure is made to accommodate the group. This preparation becomes important not only for your own personal readiness for the trip but also for the development and trust of community. If you are not able to attend every meeting in their entirety, then you are advised not to apply.

Each individual is responsible for raising a minimum of $2300 for the cost of the trip. The first down-payment of $1700 is due October 1, 2016. The rest of the amount is due by December 1, 2016. Individuals are expected to do their own fund-raising. There are no organized group fund-raising opportunities. If you are unable to raise the $2300 then you are asked to reconsider your involvement on this trip. There is no scholarship or financial aid available at this time for students.

We are asking all students considering the IMAP program to discern their level of commitment and their ability to pay or find means to afford the trip. Also, IMAP upholds a strong commitment to living a life of simplicity and openness. This means that we are living as pilgrims and trying to walk with the local community, we do everything in our power to not live or act as tourists.

Finally, all participants will be subject to two conduct reviews, one upon applying and one close to the trip dates. All participants in IMAP must remain in good standing with the University to participate in this program.

At the first meeting, all participants will be asked to sign a Statement of Intent, including your commitment to pay the full amount asked of you. A removal of a person from a trip may occur if the participant is unable to fulfill their commitment to the program.
