What to do if you are exposed to COVID-19 or test positive

The university advises anyone, regardless of vaccination status, who experiences symptoms of COVID-19 to stay home, self-isolate and get tested. Students should contact the Marquette University Medical Clinic COVID Help Line at 414-288-7184 to make an appointment for testing. Additional testing information is available on the City of Milwaukee Health Department website.

If you are unvaccinated:

And you come into close contact with someone who either tested positive for, or was diagnosed with, the COVID-19 virus by a health care provider:

You should self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of this exposure and get tested in 3-5 days. Please review the quarantine guidelines; to adequately quarantine you need a separate bedroom and bathroom from others. Please contact your residence hall or apartment director to arrange quarantine space. If you live in off-campus housing and cannot meet quarantine guidelines, you may contact Residence Life at 414-288-7208 to request quarantine space.

If you are taking in-person classes, please contact your instructors to arrange alternate assignments, if possible, during this quarantine period.

Please contact the Marquette University Medical Clinic COVID Help Line at 414-288-7184 to make an appointment for testing. Testing should occur 3- 5 days after your exposure. Please note that if your result is negative, you will still need to complete the 14-day quarantine.

Continue to complete the COVID Cheq tool every day.  If you develop symptoms (runny  nose, congestion, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, headache, body aches, fatigue, loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea) during your quarantine, call the MU Medical Clinic (414-288-7184), your local health department or your primary care physician. And you tested positive for, or were diagnosed with, the COVID-19 virus by a health care provider:

If you tested off campus, you should fill out the voluntary disclosure form to aid in contact tracing. You must isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms, or if asymptomatic, for 10 days from the date of a positive test. Please review the isolation guidelines. To adequately isolate, you need a separate bedroom and bathroom from others. Please contact your residence hall or apartment director to arrange isolation space. If you live in off-campus housing and cannot meet isolation guidelines, you may contact Residence Life at 414-288-7208 to request isolation space.

If you develop symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath) during your isolation, call the MU Medical Clinic (414-288-7184), your local health department or your primary care physician. If you are fully vaccinated:

(Fully vaccinated means you received a second dose in a two-dose series of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or one dose of the single-dose vaccine of Johnson and Johnson, or another WHO approved vaccine and least 2 weeks have passed since you completed your last dose)

Vaccinated individuals who come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should get tested 3-5 days after exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms. You should also wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until your test result is negative. You should isolate for 10 days if your test result is positive.

If you develop any symptoms of COVID-19, isolate from others, contact the medical clinic or your health care provider, and get tested. 

If you have been fully vaccinated, and have not already done so, please notify Marquette Medical Clinic at 414-288-7184 and upload your vaccine dates and record of vaccination on the patient portal. You will need to enter your vaccine dates under the Immunizations Tab and upload a copy of your vaccine card under the upload tab. Once your vaccination has been verified, we will clear your auto quarantine in Covid Cheq, generally within 24 hours.
