2023 A.A.D.O.C.R. Meeting

The Marquette University School of Dentistry will have significant role at the upcoming 2023 Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (A.A.D.O.C.R.) Meeting in Portland this March.

Dr. Christopher Okunseri, Professor and Director, Predoctoral Program in Dental Public Health at the School of Dentistry will be recognized by Dr. Rena N. D’Souza, N.I.H. N.I.D.C.R. Director for his contributions to “Oral Health in America”. “Oral Health in America” was published by N.I.D.C.R in 2021 and is a culmination of two years of research and writing by over 400 contributors. As a follow up to the Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health in America, this report explores the nation's oral health over the last 20 years. In addition to being a co-author, Dr. Okunseri’s prominent role and writings in Dental Public Health Research is heavily cited in the text of the report. Dr. Okunseri will be recognized during a special N.I.D.C.R symposium called “Scientific Strides”, which will occur on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. (PT) in room B116 of the Oregon Convention Center during A.A.D.O.C.R.  

Dr. Lobat Tayebi, Associate Professor and Research Director will serve as Session Chair and presenter for a Symposium entitled, “3D-Printing for Tissue Regeneration in Dentistry”. This continues her research prominence in 3D printing of scaffolds for tissue engineering.  

Dr. Dawei Liu, Dr. Casey Wright, and Dr. Vrisiis Kofina are also faculty presenters.

Eight predoctoral students will also be making the trip to Portland to present their research findings at A.A.D.O.C.R. this year. These dental predoctoral students include: Sheridan Michaud (who represents the School of Dentistry as the S.C.A.D.A. Award Competitor), Joseph Herrli, Nora Berens, Hannah Strachan, Lindsey Enders, Kishan Patel, Kiwon Lee, and Alice Zheng. Many of these students completed research projects in the Delta Dental Research Laboratory at the School of Dentistry.  

Other A.A.D.O.C.R. presenters include Dr. Meisam Omidi (Research Lab Manager), postdoctoral researchers Dr. Mariana Reis-Havlat and Dr. Odair Bim-Junior, and graduate students Dr. Juan Valencia Rincon and Dr. Vidyalakshmi Subramanian.

There are eighteen School of Dentistry research presentations at this year’s Annual Dental Research Meeting.
