James Carville is the former co-host of CNN's Crossfire and best known for his successful leadership of former President Bill Clinton's first campaign in 1992. Before that, he led several prominent U.S. Senate and gubernatorial campaigns in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Georgia. Carville is a best-selling author and television pundit.


Carville was a guest speaker at Marquette in April 2009. He discussed the campaign strategies used to elect President Barack Obama and the issues the Obama administration faced during its first 100 days in office.


Carville's visit was co-sponsored by the Les Aspin Center for Government Alumni Council, Division of Student Affairs and Helen Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. The event also was supported by the Marquette University Student Government student activity fee.

Catholic Colleges and the National Agenda for Student Access
Mitchem gave the keynote address at the 2009 DePaul University symposium "Balancing Market and Mission: Enrollment Management Strategies in Catholic Higher Education." The speech suggested opportunities for Catholic colleges and universities to emerge as leaders nationally on issues concerning student access and attainment.
