2022 Summer Food Program

College of Education Hartman Center Announces Participation in the Summer Food Service Program

Released: June 13, 2022

Realizing the importance of offering nutritious meals to children during the summer months, the Hartman Literacy Center located in the College of Education at Marquette University announces sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. The Hartman Center will provide meals as part of its supplemental reading program. As a closed, enrolled site, the Hartman Center will only be able to provide meals to children who are participating in its summer program starting Monday, June 20, and running through Friday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Children will receive a morning snack and lunch each day they are in attendance.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, provides nutritious meals to children during the summer. (To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential or non-residential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced price meals in the National School Lunch Program.) Children who are part of households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly foods stamps) benefits or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals.
