In an industry where males still dominate, emerges an unapologetically zealous, multi-culturally influenced student of her craft, DJ Poizon Ivy. The talented empress behind the turntables balances deejaying on-air, on main concert stages, at select nightclubs and lifestyle venues, for celebrity and non-profit events, and for corporate clients, with hosting, interviewing and modeling. As an international interdisciplinary talent, Poizon Ivy has a love for diversity, incorporating all genres into her sets.

Born Ivy Awino in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in Dallas, Texas, Ivy mastered both the piano and cello before discovering her love for yet another instrument; turntables. In 2010, Ivy got her first break hosting her self-titled weekly online radio show, “Poizon Ivy After Dark” on WMUR, Marquette University’s student ran radio station. In a few short years, Ivy rose in ranks, setting off the world’s largest concert stages.

DJ Poizon Ivy became the first female mixer to grace the airwaves at WKKV-FM (Milwaukee) and then achieved the same feat again when she joined heritage station KKDA K104.5 (Dallas). In 2016, she joined the Dallas Wings as their in-arena DJ during the WNBA’s historical 20th anniversary season. As if that wasn’t enough, she became the Dallas Mavericks’ first female team DJ in franchise history and is the 2nd female DJ in NBA league history. Poizon Ivy’s story of rising from a former ball kid to team DJ garnered a Lonestar Regional Emmy for a made for television mini documentary entitled Fate & Faith. In 2018, she became the first ever female DJ to DJ at an NBA All Star Game. Forbes Magazine named Ivy among the 2019 30 under 30 in Sports in December 2019. 

Going from on air, to arenas, to clubs and main stages, DJ Poizon Ivy has lent her services to major brands, corporations, and non-profits including the NBA, NBA Africa, Basketball Africa League, Spotify, RiseNation, several major record labels, Refinery29, MLB, NCAA, United Way, Red Bull, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation, The Nanci Lieberman Foundation, and more.

When she’s not honing her skills, DJ Poizon Ivy is an advocate for causes close to her and distinctly works to enable youth pursuing careers in the arts and sports through her non-profit, GEM-IN-I.

DJ Poizon Ivy’s personal vision includes continual growth into an authentic voice of authority and leader in culture and diversity as pertaining to sports, music, fashion, and the greater arts sector.
