The Marquette Forum is co-hosting a workshop at the Medical College of Wisconsin during the seventh annual Global Health Week. The workshop will focus on A Transformation of Global Health Knowledge towards Community Disparities in Southeast Wisconsin

Undergraduate and graduate students from Marquette are invited to join medical students from MCW in this “match-making” workshop intended to connect the skills and energy of students interested in global health with the needs and opportunities of local organizations. After hearing a “pitch” from Milwaukee area organizations from different sectors, students will have the chance to sit and discuss concrete research, volunteer, project or work opportunities with three of the organizations represented.

Among the organizations participating:

    • City of Milwaukee Health Department
    • International Learning Center, a program of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee
    • Sebastian Family Psychology Practice
    • Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI)
    • Walker’s Point Community Clinic
    • Shriner’s Children’s Hospital
    • United Community Center

About the Forum

For academic year 2017-18, Marquette University will engage in a year-long series of events focusing on health equity. Building on last year’s theme “Freedom Dreams Now,” this year will explore health disparities, the social determinants of health, and opportunities for achieving greater equity locally and globally. Engaging students, faculty, staff, and the communities making up greater Milwaukee, Forum events will focus on several dimensions of health equity:

  • Children’s health/social determinants of health
  • Mental health: enduring stigmas and challenges
  • Global health: developing Marquette networks
  • Incarceration and health
  • Milwaukee: accessing healthcare
