VSP in-network providers may differ from those in our medical plans. You must go to a VSP provider to have the full vision insurance benefit; otherwise if you go out of network your vision benefit is reduced. VSP does not issue ID cards.

VSP does not issue ID cards.  As of 1/1/2020 VSP will be using your 9 digit MU Employee ID number rather than the last four digits of your Social Security Number as your unique identifier and as the means of provider eligibility verification. You will need to contact your provider and update them with your MU ID number before they can process any claims. If you have any questions, please contact VSP at 1-800-877-7195.

All regular, full-time employees (those who work a minimum of 30 hours per week on a 1-year academic/calendar year contract) and full-time temporary employees (who have at least a one year appointment) are eligible. Regular part-time employees (those who work a minimum of 20 but less than 30 hours per week) can enroll, but must pay the full premium on a payroll deduction basis.

Part-time employees who work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for benefits.

2020 Vision Rates

Employees enrolled in the Vision plan need to contact VSP.

VSP members get the best value when they see a VSP provider, as this is covered as in-network. Members still have the option to see a non-VSP provider (e.g. Sam's Club, Stein Optical, etc.). The patient is responsible for full payment to the non-VSP provider and has up to six months to submit the itemized receipt and reimbursement form to VSP for a partial reimbursement. Please refer to the Member Benefit Summary or contact VSP's Customer Service at 1-800-877-7195 to learn more about the reimbursement maximums.
