Position Overview

Marquette University’s Raynor Memorial Libraries seeks two (2) energetic, collaborative, and service-focused librarian to support student success and faculty research related to the health sciences. A member of the library’s Research and Instructional Services team, this librarian is responsible for research assistance, instruction, collection management, and outreach as the subject liaison for the health sciences, biology, and chemistry departments at Marquette. The successful candidate will bring awareness of library resources and practices related to the health fields as well as enthusiasm for faculty outreach and student learning.

  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with faculty and students that support all stages of their instruction and research.
  • Partner with faculty and the library acquisitions team to select, manage, and evaluate relevant areas of the library’s collections information resources that support current student and faculty academic and research needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy, including evidence-based practice, into the curriculum.
  • Develop and conduct instructional sessions for students on information literacy and the use of relevant research resources and practices.
  • Create instructional materials in a variety of formats for online use by students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty on systematic reviews, meta-analyses, evidence syntheses or related manuscripts or presentations.
  • Assist faculty with federal funding agencies’ policies requiring open access to publications, data management planning and tools.
  • Provide in-person and virtual reference support, including occasional evening hours.
  • Communicate regularly with the departments about relevant news, services, resources, and programming of interest to their faculty and students.
  • Contribute to and learn from the health sciences librarianship profession through such avenues as local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, including Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach library information literacy sessions, including the development of learning outcomes and measurable assessments.
  • Demonstrated interest in the fields of health sciences, biology, or chemistry.
  • Experience with disciplinary databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, or Web of Science.
  • Familiarity with federal open access mandates and open repositories and publishing platforms commonly used in health sciences fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and an ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong commitment to patron service and improving the user experience.
  • A growth mindset and commitment to professional development.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Two years or more demonstrated liaison experience in an academic library, health or medical center, or hospital setting.
  • Experience teaching evidence-based practice in the library setting or teaching information literacy.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice and familiarity with research methodologies related to the fields of health sciences, biology or chemistry.
  • College course work or experience in a health or science field appropriate to the position.
  • Experience working with faculty on literature or systematic review searches.
  • Experience with collection management.
  • Experience with journal analytics and other scholarly communications metrics.


Librarians at Marquette University hold non-tenured faculty appointments. The successful candidate will be hired at assistant or associate librarian rank as outlined in the Marquette University Academic Librarians Assembly promotion and tenure guidelines. A strong record of job performance, professional growth, and service is required for reappointment and promotion in rank. The minimum salary is $50,000.
