Applying for financial aid for graduate and professional students

Applying for financial aid ... is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Applying for financial aid can be a painless process if you keep in mind some helpful hints and follow the instructions provided here. To determine how much aid you will need to attend Marquette, you first need to estimate your costs, visit Cost of Attendance for Graduate and Professional Degrees to get started.

  1. Get organized

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, you will need to:

    • Gather your and your spouse's tax information from the tax year two years prior to the academic year for which you are applying for financial aid.
    • Health professions students are encouraged to supply parent data on the FAFSA in order to be considered for the Health Professions Loan (for dental students) and Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students (Dental/DPT/PA)
    • Create a Federal Student Aid ID username and password. This will serve as your electronic signature on your FAFSA application.
  2. Submit the FAFSA

    The FAFSA is available online.

    • Complete all sections about you, your school plans and financial information.
    • List Marquette University. Our school code is 003863.
    • Provide your FSA ID.
    • Submit your information.
    • Print out and keep a copy of your submitted information for your records.
  3. FAFSA follow-up

Here's what happens after you file the FAFSA:

    • You will receive a Student Aid Report. Check it for accuracy and follow up on any requests for additional information.
    • Your Expected Family Contribution is calculated from information you provided on the FAFSA and is listed on your SAR. The EFC is the amount your family is expected to contribute to your education for the upcoming year.
    • If you have special or extraordinary circumstances notify the Office of Student Financial Aid in writing.
    • Watch your eMarq account for financial aid notifications and/or requests for additional documentation. Read and follow all instructions.
