About the Office of the Ombuds

Dear Marquette faculty and staff,

In any healthy organization, particularly one as diverse and complex as Marquette University, disputes, grievances and interpersonal conflicts are inevitable. As a Catholic, Jesuit institution committed to the tenets of cura personalis, it is important that we have in place a variety of resources for individuals to seek resolution and ultimately heal.

The Office of the Ombuds, directed by Dr. Kerry Egdorf, is an invaluable service to our employees. This confidential, impartial, independent and informal resource provides all faculty and staff at Marquette with an individual who serves as a neutral conflict resolution consultant, mediator or referrer to assist with a variety of employee concerns.

Confidentiality is a central tenant of ombudsman practice and allows the ombuds to serve most effectively. It is important to emphasize that, while the ombudsman reports directly to the president, it is with the understanding that confidentiality will be maintained to the extent allowed by law.

With this website as your guide to the types of issues the Office of the Ombuds can assist with, we encourage you consider this resource when seeking a fair process to reach a just resolution.
