Celebrating 10 Years

Ten-Year Anniversary

In January 2008, the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking opened its doors for the first time. This marked the first academic center at Marquette (and at any Catholic university in the nation) expressly committed to exploring the power of nonviolence.

Ten years later, the Center’s impact is clear. Peace education has transformed the lives of Marquette students, and Marquette peacemaking initiatives have addressed indignities in communities locally and around the globe.

These achievements are only possible because of the many students, alumni, community members, faculty, and staff who have joined us in advancing this important mission.

For the next year, from May 2018 to May 2019, we invite you to participate in our 10-year anniversary campaign. Through this campaign we will share some of our favorite stories of the Center’s impact over the past ten years, as well as how you can support the Center’s mission and work for years to come.

To ensure that you receive content and event notices for the campaign, please subscribe to the Center’s e-newsletter and follow us on social media.

The Anniversary Themes:

We look forward to sharing stories and memories with you, and we want to hear from you if you have a story that connects to any of these themes.

  • Center for Peacemaking history – This theme focuses on remembering some of the most noteworthy events and developments in our history, as well as some of our most proud “mission moments.”
  • Peacemaking at Marquette – This theme focuses on stories of peacemaking from Marquette’s history, with a special emphasis on activities that occurred before the Center for Peacemaking opened.
  • Courage stories – This theme focuses on stories and testimonies of students who were transformed by and caught courage from their involvement with the Center for Peacemaking.

Four ways you can celebrate with us:

  1. Attend events – Join us at events to commemorate the Center’s 10th anniversary including social gatherings, alumni panels, and on-campus lectures.
  2. Share your story – Do you have a student impact story, donor testimonial, alumni peacemaking story, or memory of peacemaking at Marquette? We want to hear from you! Complete our online survey to add your story to the campaign.
  3. Help us connect – We are always looking to expand the community of people connected to the Center for Peacemaking. Tell your friends about the Center, let us know about organizations interested in partnering on a project, and share posts from the anniversary campaign on your social media.
  4. Donate – All we have accomplished over the past ten years is only possible because of the generosity of donors. As we celebrate the Center for Peacemaking’s 10th anniversary, please consider making a donation to support this important and thriving mission. Your gift provides students with the education and experiences that transforms their lives.

Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community of peacemakers! It’s an honor to celebrate the memories and successes of the past ten years with you.
