Vanessa Ayala

Vanessa Ayala is a senior in the College of Arts & Science. She will be graduating in May 2012 with a double major in psychology and criminology and law studies, and a minor in Spanish.  One day, she hopes to pursue a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.  Meanwhile, participating in post-graduate service.  Being a part of the Mental Health Disparities Lab has not only given her the proper tools that will be essential in graduate school but she has also had the opportunity to learn more about her own culture. By studying literature reviews she has learned more about the Latino Culture, discrimination, race-related stressors, mental health, coping skills, acculturation, and ethnic identity.

Vanessa is grateful for all the opportunities she has had in her undergraduate career.  Just last semester she was able to study abroad in Spain and work as an au pair in Spain during the summer.  Such experience, has allowed her to discover her newfound passion for traveling and for working with kids.  Back in Marquette, she is now volunteering in La Causa Nursery Center.  She is also a part of the Global Village Program, where she is an ambassador for international students that study in Marquette.
