Apply for Community Programming Council!

Looking to develop your leadership skills, get involved in your hall community, or just meet new people at Marquette? Consider applying for Community Programming Council, where you can plan building-wide events and advocate for the needs of residents in your hall. If you are interested in applying for a CPC position, go here for more information and to apply.

RA Conversations

Your RAs will be reaching out to you in the next couple of weeks to schedule a 1:1 conversation with you. The hope with this conversation is for them to get to know you better and help connect you to resources to help you achieve your goals for the semester. These conversations are an important part of creating a welcoming community in our halls, and we thank you for your participation!

Policy Review

Many policies were discussed in your first floor meetings. Some of these policies are outlined below for your reference.

Alcohol/Drug Policy

We recognize that you are an adult, but please remember that you, ultimately, are responsible for your choices.

  • If you are under 21, no alcohol should be present in your residence hall room; drugs and paraphernalia are strictly prohibited. Policies apply to Marquette students, both in and out of the residence halls including what gets posted on social media.
  • Drug use is not allowed—this includes misuse of prescription drugs, sharing of prescription drugs, misuse of over-the-counter drugs, illegally purchased drugs (marijuana, cocaine, heroin), etc.
  • Drug paraphernalia or advertisements suggesting drug use are also not permitted.
  • Drug consequences begin at the level of probation, suspension, or expulsion.
  • Selling your prescription drugs is considered dealing.
  • Medical marijuana is not recognized in Wisconsin.

If you think you, your roommate, or a friend is in trouble:

  • Get an RA/call MUPD
  • Know when to ask for help regarding alcohol overdose
  • Be aware of your surroundings

Complicity

Students who condone or encourage another person's behavior that violates any standard of conduct may be in violation of the complicity policy.  Marquette students are expected to remove themselves from locations where a policy is being violated, stop the behavior or report the incident.   We recognize simply being in the presence of alcohol and choosing not to drink is a low-risk decision and, in and of itself, is not a violation of the alcohol policy, but students are expected to hold themselves and each other accountable for maintaining the educational environment on campus.

Visitation

  • Visitation is often a confusing subject for new students.
    • To have guests, you must check them in at the front desk, providing the desk receptionist or MUPD officer with your ID and the IDs for each of your guests; you are allowed to have 3 guests at a time.
    • Guests may visit from 9 am-1 am, Sunday-Thursday, and 9 am-2 am, Friday and Saturday.
    • You must accompany your guests at all times when they are in the residence halls.
  • Overnight visitation
    • To have guests overnight, they must fill out an overnight form by 10 PM at the front desk.
    • You may have 2 guests overnight; guests may only stay overnight up to 2 nights in a row.
    • Same rules apply for overnight guests—you must accompany them at all times, etc.
    • Only same-gender guests are allowed to stay overnight with you.
    • If you are having someone under the age of 18 spend the night, they must complete an under 18 form which can be found on the ORL website. This must be submitted to the hall director for approval 3 days prior to their visit.

Other Policies

  • There are some items that are prohibited in the residence halls.  These items are typically prohibited for safety reasons.  Prohibited Items includes candles, alcohol paraphernalia (shot glasses, signs, flasks, glasses designed for alcohol, etc.), George Foreman grills, etc.
  • Quiet hours extend from 10 pm – 9 am during the week and 11 pm – 9 am on the weekends.  Courtesy hours are 24 hours a day.
  • All of the residence halls are smoke free. As of August 1, 2017, Marquette's campus is smoke free. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus property. If you do choose to smoke, you must on city sidewalks or off-campus. This includes e-cigarettes. No vapes, juuls, or any type of e-cigarette may be used in the residence halls. If you are found using one in the hall, it will be documented and confiscated.
  • No pets are allowed in residence hall rooms except for fish.
  • No sports are allowed inside of residence halls—so, please do not bounce a ball in the hallway, throw a Frisbee, hacky sack, play Lacrosse indoors.  This is for the safety of other residents; also, sometimes projectile items can set off fire system sprinklers or break windows.  If you are involved in any such damage, you will be liable to cover the cost of repairs.
