Dr. Christina Hanhardt

We are excited to host Christina Hanhardt, Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, as this year's McGee Lecture.

She is author of Safe Space: Gay Neighborhood History and the Politics of Violence. She gave a talk titled SAFE FOR WHOM? THE FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENCE AND FOR SAFE SPACES IN LGBT ACTIVIST HISTORY on Monday, April 27th at 3:30 in Raynor Library.

The talk looked at the relationship between LGBT safe space politics, and neighborhood policing. Dr. Hanhardt brought the discussion all the way up to the current moment in which we see wide-scale debate and disagreement on policing, such as the events in Ferguson in August 2014.
