Dr. Jesse Cheng

Our department welcomes a new member, Dr, Jesse Cheng, who joined us this Fall.

Dr. Cheng received his PhD in Anthropology from University of California, Irvine in 2007. He investigates the cultivation of empathy for individuals from vulnerable populations. His recent research explores how criminal defense advocates overcome barriers to empathy toward capitally charged defendants -- a group disproportionately affected by intellectual disability, mental illness, and structurally embedded forms of social, emotional, and material deprivation.

Dr. Cheng is planning to teach Introduction to criminology and Court Process classes at Marquette.
