Dr. Michael McCarthy


Our department welcomes a new member, Dr, Michael McCarthy, who joined us after his post-doctoral fellowship with the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies.


Dr. McCarthy received his PhD in Sociology from NYU in 2013. He studies the power and politics of American capitalism through a historical lens. He is currently writing a book on the privatization of retirement security since the New Deal period of the 1930s and is in the very early stages of developing a project on finance.


Dr. McCarthy's teaching interest include Political Sociology, Labor Movements & Social Movements, Comparative-Historical Methods, and Political Economy.
